Homeward // Promo
Homeward of Virginia (homewardva.org) has an annual event at the Greater Richmond Convention Center called “Project Homeless Connect.” They wanted footage from the event to be used in a video to promote their organization.—I shot all the interviews and b-roll on a Panasonic GH1 with stock zoom lens. The audio was all captured to a [...]
Showcase: “Happy Birthday, Mark! (Part 1)”
My dear friend Jacobi has got quite the talent. Check out this video he shot & edited for my birthday. I hope it encourages you like it did me.

Showcase: “Apricot”
When you have few words surrounded by lots of silence, your mind will have a tendency to wander about. The creators of this film lead you about on a leash so that you “get it.”

Sal + Alissa // Teaser
Sal & Alissa got married. They wanted me to show up with a video camera. Their magic happened, and now it’s my turn.
The edit is always the hardest part of the whole project… there’s so much footage to review and stack into my brain, labeling this, cutting that.
It takes a while to get a project [...]
Showcase: Buckles
Here’s another beautiful piece of work by Sean Dunne. I hope you enjoy it.

RePost: “Them Crooked Photo Contracts”

Why are bands trying to take away the rights of photographers?
Daniel Boud has an interesting post on his site about bands vs. photographers. You can read it here:

Showcase: “What is That”
I like how the old man gets the one-up on his son. This is beautiful. The CG bird could’ve been a bit better, but all-in-all, this a very nice.

Showcase: The Archive
Here’s a beautiful short film by Sean Dunne. It’s called “The Archive”. Paul Mawhinney is a man who’s devoted his entire life to music. In fact, he has the largest record collection in the world, estimated to be worth over $50 million.
The coloring is superb and I love the minimalistic camera shots. Most of them [...]
Melinda + Jason // Save the Date

Melinda came to me to have me do a film of their wedding. She has a website for the wedding and I thought it would be fun to make a “Save the Date” video for her & Jason.
This is a short story of how they met. I asked Melinda what song she would like for [...]
7 Cities Ballroom – Dance Showcase // Event Demo
This is the latest project I’ve been working on. It’s for a group called 7 Cities Ballroom. It was their annual dance showcase. They like to take a video of the event for the students, for which they usually just stick a camera on a tripod. This time around they decided to go [...]
Showcase: Reverie

This is such beautiful camera work. Vincent Laforet got ahold of a 5DmkII and went at it. He uses a few different techniques in shooting and post to make everything look so alive. I love it!

7 Cities Ballroom – Dance Showcase // Event Demo (pre-production)

The latest project I’m working on is for a group called 7 Cities Ballroom. It was their annual dance showcase. They like to take a video of the event for the students, for which they usually just stick a camera on a tripod. This time around they decided to go professional on the video. I, [...]
Search Engine Optimization is Crap
Most of my conversations with people who want more hits on their website and want their site at the top of Google searches usually have a duped mentality. Back in the days when the interwebs was new and mostly broken, search engine optimization was somewhat legitimate. I remember having a folder of bookmarks to an [...]

Great Article About Apple’s Bitch-Slap to Microsoft
It’s been almost 2 months since Apple released Mac OS X v10.6, a.k.a. “Snow Leopard”. I know, it’s a funny name, but very apropos. You see, every version release of OS X (operating system 10) has been code-named after a big cat: Cheetah (10.0), Puma 10.1), Jaguar (10.2), Panther (10.3), Tiger (10.4), Leopard [...]
“A Girl and Her Garden” // Video Portrait
In a “Video Portrait” I capture the essence of who someone is and set it to music that would be in that person’s life soundtrack. In this case I have the lovely Laura: she’s a native Texan, loves records, country, growing things, and has a knack for nostalgia. This film tells the story of who she [...]
“A Girl and Her Garden” // Video Portrait (pre-production)

Here’s another little pre-production post for you…
I wanted to make a fun little montage video showcasing the great footage that my camera rig captures. I thought, “what better subject than the sweetest girl I know?”.
Her name is Laura and she loves her garden. She lives in a little apartment with a roof porch. I built [...]
Art Louis // Video Portrait (pre-production)

Currently I’m shooting a video portrait for Louis Fronkier who is a local photographer. I’ve got some great studio shots as well as some great B-roll from one of his photo session, which was down at Yorktown Beach.
Here’s a couple of stills from the video footage. You can click on them to see a higher [...]
Showcase: Sofia’s People
This was shot on a Canon 5D Mark II using a single prime lens (Zeiss 50mm f1.4). There’s no lighting, no grading, and it’s all hand-held. It shows you the importance of composition in shooting over fancy zooms and dolly moves. I love it… I would marry it.

Here’s a film that I anticipate seeing. Not only is the storyline compelling, but the cinematography looks stellar!

Face of Fox
Fox43, which is a local TV station was looking for a talented individual to represent their online distribution. They call it the “Face of Fox” and my good friend Jonathan Frank was a contestant.
He edited this video but I handled the camera on all the outdoor shots – the “director of photography”, if you will. [...]
You Have a Choice
This is a video that I made for a contest. It’s a short documentary style video about the choice that women/families have in their birthing. There were some guidelines that had to be followed, namely keeping it to 7 minutes. I think it came out pretty decent.
I setup the studio with a [...]
Showcase: A Thousand Words
This is one of the most stunning pieces that I’ve seen on the internet.
It’s directed by Peter Chung who describes the video with “Every day: so many opportunities to connect… What if you took just one?”
